I’m now booking school visits for the 2020-2021 school year, in conjunction with the release of my debut picture book Felíz New Year, Ava Gabriela! on October 1, 2020. If you’d like to request a session outside of that time, feel free to to contact me and we can try to work something out.
As a writing instructor and author who is a child of immigrants, I love speaking about my writing process, my publishing journey, and the influence my parents and culture have had on my work. I also love talking craft and inspiration!
I’m available to do talks and workshops on various topics, including: my journey from concept to publication, the writing process, the “Where I’m From” poem, how to find inspiration, mining your culture and experiences for story ideas, creating evocative settings, imagery, revision, plot and character, and many more. Once my book is published, I’m also available for read-alongs with Q&A and possible signing.
Fee for in-person author visits is as follows:
Half-day sessions, consisting of up to two presentations, no more than an hour each.
Within 40 miles of my home: $300
Outside of 40 miles: $500 plus travel, including accommodations as needed.
Full day sessions, consisting of up to four presentations, no more than an hour each.
Within 40 miles of my home: $550
Outside of 40 miles: $950 plus add travel, including accommodations as needed.
Suggested audience: The target audience for Felíz New Year, Ava Gabriela! is PreK – 3rd grade, but depending on the topic, I can tailor workshops and presentations for middle school students, high school students, and even college (after all, I teach college students!)
If you are a teacher, librarian, or book seller and would like to schedule me for a visit, feel free to contact me!
Fee for Skype visits: $50
In addition to in-person school visits, I also offer Skype sessions! These are great opportunities for book clubs, author Q&A, and classroom enrichment. For a more personalized experience, Skype visits are great for 1-2 classrooms max, no more than 50 students. Ideally, students will have already read the book to enhance the experience.
Skype visits are generally about 30-45 minutes long and consist of both a talk and a Q&A with the author.
